reading-group1Do you often wish you read more?
Have you got piles of half-reads by your bedside table?
Or do you find yourself reading passively, so that you’ve forgotten the beginning of a book by the time you’ve got to the end?

Well, if any of the above applies to you or even if you’re a reading juggernaut, we’d love for you to join our Monthly Book Group.

Here’s how it works:

1. At the beginning of every month we’re going to choose a book that we’ll be reading and let you all know about it on this page.  We’ll be choosing one that has been published for a while, and that has been easily accessible – our hope is that you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy easily, quickly and cheaply.  You might already have it on your bookshelves!

2. If you like the sound of the book we’re going to be (hopefully!) enjoying, we’d like you to actively join us by leaving a comment to let us know that you’re taking part. What are the benefits of actively joining (other than reassuring us that we’re not alone out there)? Well, you’ll be entered for that month’s Book Giveaway!  Yes, you read right, at the middle of every month we’ll be sending out into the world – gratis – a book that we have read and loved to one of you, our Book Group members.  In this day and age where you don’t usually get anything for free, it’s a no-brainer!

3.  Once you’ve got hold of the Book Group book, it’s time for the best part – you’ll need to grab yourself a comfy seat and bevvie of choice and start reading.

4. In the third week of that month we’ll start posting a list of questions that we’d like you to consider.  Don’t worry, these won’t be multiple choice to see whether you’ve read the book, but more like a spring-board for discussion. We’d suggest you don’t look at these until you’ve finished the book as we can’t guarantee they’ll be spoiler-free (we want you to find out that the heroine has eloped with her husband’s brother’s nephew’s aunt’s pet donkey’s friend’s owner’s cousin thrice removed by yourself ).

5. It’s then YOUR time to shine – get stuck in! Comment, rant, muse, challenge…tell us what you loved, what you hated, what made you laugh, what made you cry, what made you jump up in an indignant fury…what characters you fell in love with, what characters you would walk up to and slap in the face if you saw them in Tescos, what characters made you clutch your head in despair…we want you to share it and bare it.   We also want you to give the book a score out of 10 and we’ll publish the results on here.

Finally, though we have hosted book groups before this is our first time dabbling in one online, so we really do need your feedback.  Are the timeframes too short?  Were the books unsuitable? Are the questions relevant?  We welcome all comments, both positive and negative.

Hi – just wondered if you’d chosen a book for July’s book club yet, as I’d like to join in, but I’m going away on hol at the beginning of July, and I wanted to get the book ordered before that so I can read it on hol. Thanks – Caroline x

Would love to do this. Do you know what Jan’s book is?
